Inspect quality against required standards


Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to inspect quality of work against job specifications.

It applies to individuals who perform a range of mainly routine tasks in various sectors of the printing and graphic arts industry, using limited practical skills and fundamental knowledge in a defined context. They generally work under direct supervision.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Carry out inspection of quality during job

1.1 Job is collected/received and inspected against job specifications according to enterprise standards and procedures

1.2 Quality specifications and tolerances are understood and meet client requirements as well as enterprise and industry standards

1.3 Variation to standards are monitored and corrective action taken to rectify problems according to enterprise procedures within the defined work area

1.4 Inspection and testing procedures are applied at regular intervals to determine conformity with specifications and to minimise waste

1.5 Unsatisfactory work is identified according to predetermined standards and enterprise procedures

2. Complete documentation

2.1 Documentation is accurately completed to meet required enterprise procedures

2.2 Problems and suggestions for improvement are documented and passed on to appropriate personnel

Evidence of Performance

Evidence of the ability to:

correctly inspect quality of work against job specifications

produce a record, maintained over a period of at least one month, which shows that no reasonable complaints or reports of faulty goods or documentation were received from customers (internal or external) relating to work handled by the individual.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

explain why quality is important

Checking quality requirements before job commencement

describe quality standards set by the customer

outline enterprise procedures to achieve quality

identify areas that need to be inspected for quality

Quality inspection procedures

outline when quality inspections should be carried out

explain consequences unnecessary inspections have on production output

identify control instruments used in a quality inspection

outline an appropriate response to identified faults

identify who is responsible for product quality

Documentation procedures

describe types of specifications recorded on the job sheet

describe information that needs to be documented, and who should receive this information.


Assessment Conditions

Gather evidence to demonstrate consistent performance in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Noise levels, production flow, interruptions and time variances must be typical of those experienced in the Support field of work and include access to special purpose tools, equipment and materials.

Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements.
